Marine Construction Permitting for the Chesapeake Bay Area

In general, the permitting process for any marine construction project in Maryland or Virginia must begin several months in advance of th actual construction start date. State and County permits are required, and some local jurisdictions may require permits as well. (See list below, and consult within your local jurisdiction for verification.) Building permits are required, in addition to permits from the Department of the Environment due to the movement of land under or adjacent to a body of water.

Knowing that the permitting process required prior to building a new dock, pier, boat lift or revetment can be quite arduous, Bay Pile Driving offers to take over this part of the project for waterfront home owners who are new to the area or have never engaged in the process before. For a separate permitting fee, we will complete and submit all paperwork and required copies of plans/blueprints, and arrange for the necessary site visits and inspections.

Our familiarity with the procedures involved helps move the process along faster (when possible), and gives our clients the peace of mind that this critical part of the project will be handled professionally, by a team with over 2 decades of experience in the local area.

Thanks very much for your prompt response, getting my lift installed in the time period you quoted. I will recommend your services to anyone I can in the future.

Bay Pile Driving is fully licensed and insured in the State of Maryland.

Educated consumers are urged to beware of contractors that are not licensed and fully insured in the state in which work is being done.

A contractor should be eager to show you his license in the form of a wallet-size card, or a full-size certificate.

Take down the number and search for it online (Maryland DLLR website) to be sure it is still valid.

Also be sure to ask for a certificate of insurance for workman's compensation and liability. If your contractor does not have these,

and a worker is injured on your property, YOU could be held liable for any medical bills!
